The IJzer enters our country via Haringe and Roesbrugge near Poperinge. “I see that the water level of the IJzer is rising again, but in most places there is still a lot of margin,” says Mayor Christof Dejaegher of Poperinge.
“It is mainly a matter of watching how much precipitation will fall in Northern France, where code orange has been declared. Some of that water will have to be drained via our land to the sea. There is some delay. We will only see the effect 20 to 24 hours later. We will keep a close eye on it in the coming days.”
