Aki Manninen poured washing-up liquid into the opening and rage broke out: “Unbelievable stupidity”

Nature conservation experts have a critical attitude towards the opening videos published by Aki Manninen.

Wellness coach Aki Manninen shared on Saturday December 30th His Instagram account in the stories section of the video series about open houses.

In videos, Manninen shows how he saws his home beach with an open chainsaw. Laughing Manninen is upset about the oil leaking into the water from the chainsaw and the fact that greasy water would hinder the swimming experience.

In a later video, Manninen says that he got a tip that you can get rid of the greasy surface of the water with Fairy dishwashing detergent. In the video, Manninen shows how he pours dishwashing liquid from a bottle into the opening and the surface of the water seems to become clear from the oil.

– Not such a fat mistress. Foam this opening. Got the fat off, Manninen laughs in the video.

Manninen’s videos have caused heated discussion on social media.

– Manninen nicely pouring fairies into natural waters. If you indulge in such stupidity, why still share it with the whole nation? In the Jodel instant message service, we wonder.

– Such behavior always raises blood pressure, another user updates.

– Unbelievable stupidity, wrote the third.

“Stupid advice”

The nature conservation experts interviewed by Iltalehti do not view Manninen’s solution positively.

Specialist researcher of the Finnish Environment Institute’s water and marine management group Jukka Aroviita says that the washing-up liquid contains phosphorus, which causes eutrophication of the waters.

– It increases algae blooms. Then it’s not nice to swim in the summer. Stupid advice pours detergent into natural water, Aroviita is knocked out.

The researcher sees possibly another kind of disadvantage in the operation.

– In my opinion, polluting natural water is not even legal. This could fall into that category, Aroviita suspects.

Harmful

Research professor at the Finnish Environment Institute Markku Viitasalo says that the chainsaw leaves oil and fuel residues in the water, which are clearly visible on the surface of the water.

– This is a common phenomenon also in connection with motorboats. It is part of sea pollution that should be avoided by all means, Viitasalo explains.

According to Viitasalo, the use of washing-up liquid is based on the fact that the substance removes the surface tension of the water and causes the oil to disappear from view.

– The substance itself doesn’t disappear anywhere. Fairy is not an eco-detergent. Adding it to the water does not benefit the Baltic Sea or reduce natural harm, only the aesthetic harm disappears. I do not recommend.

Viitasalo says that oil is more harmful to the environment than washing-up liquid. He urges chainsaw users to take care of their equipment so that splashes do not end up in nature. A more ecological, if more laborious, way to make an opening is to use an auger and a regular saw.

Manninen says in the video that he uses biodegradable oil in his chainsaw. According to Viitasalo, it is a friendlier option for nature.

“Not a big crime”

Viitasalo points out that on the scale of the sea, it is a small fault. He does not believe that the legislation prohibits making an opening with a chainsaw or dishwashing detergent ending up in the water. Washing dishes in natural waters is common, for example, when camping and boating.

– This can be compared to what boating causes overall. Sawing a single opening is not a big environmental crime.

Viitasalo recommends that before following the advice read on social media, everyone should familiarize themselves with the consequences of their actions.

– When moving in nature, one should be prudent and act in such a way that as little excess gets into the sea as possible, Viitasalo urges.
