Jenning de Boo has won the 500 meters at the National Championships distances. 19-year-old De Boo is riding with the seniors for the first time this season, but that did not seem to bother him in Thialf. Janno Botman took silver, Stefan Westenbroek came third.
De Boo had set a personal record of 34.44 in the first 500 meters, making him much faster than Botman (34.62) and Scheperkamp (34.69). With 34.49 in the final stage against Botman, De Boo was again the fastest. Botman had the eighth fastest time with 34.89. Scheperkamp had achieved the seventh fastest time of 34.86 in the previous stage.
The three skaters who set the fastest time in one of the two races will in principle qualify for the World Championship distances. In addition to De Boo and Botman, this is Stefan Westenbroek.
The 21-year-old skater from Reggeborgh, who had fallen in the first 500 meters, achieved a time of 34.67, making him just faster than Scheperkamp in the first round.
