‘The bottleneck? It is with the gentlemen from Even Tot Hier!’

Arjen Lubach would like to be on the air more often with his Evening Show, but he says the problem does not lie with him. “The men of Even Tot Hier don’t want to do it at the same time.”

The Evening Show with Arjen Lubach is inspired by the typical American talk shows where the presenter sits at a desk. Robert Jensen also did that for a while at RTL and now Arjen Lubach does it with slightly more success at the NPO. In contrast to those American programs, Arjen is only on television for a small part of the year.

Bottleneck

Is Arjen just lazy or what exactly is that? Manuel Venderbos asks him in a video of it A.D, presenting him with an award. “It may be the most frequently asked question, but why can’t you go longer and more often and always?”

Arjen: “Yes, that has to do with everything. Longer, more often and always is…”

Manuel interrupts him: “Are you the bottleneck?”

‘No’

Arjen denies that. “I am not the bottleneck. No, certainly not, because why?”

Manuel: “I don’t know. There must be a bottleneck somewhere.”

Arjen: “No, the bottleneck lies somewhere with the NPO and schedules, because you also have Even Tot Hier and they don’t want to be on TV at the same time as us, so then you immediately exclude four months of the year.”

Crumbs

The men of Even Tot Hier do not want to broadcast in the same weeks as Arjen, because he can be seen during the week and ‘then you can actually only use the crumbs that are left behind, they once explained.

Arjen: “And then you also have politically calm periods – I don’t think I would want to broadcast the summer myself. And you have a team with a lot of people, an editorial staff of fifteen is quite a lot, but if you compare it with American shows…”

January 22

In other words: Arjen still thinks his editorial team is too small to broadcast larger parts of the year. When will he be back on TV? “January 22. At least, it is the NPO, so you never know, but then we are supposed to be on TV again.”
