The Darts World Cup is in full swing at the Alexandra Palace in London. Four Dutch people are still competing for prizes in a sport that is almost synonymous with enjoying a drink.
However, the German darts association has called for people to only stand sober on stage. The association of our eastern neighbors no longer wants drunken participants. “Without alcohol I probably wouldn’t have won anything,” two-time world champion Dennis Priestley (73) said earlier, sober, to the NOS.
Other darts players also find that they have better control of their nerves when they have had a drink. Some participants see this as doping. The times when professionals were helpless on stage are over. For most participants, darts is now a full-time job, for which they practice constantly.
But can you separate the alcohol from a game that started in the pub and has thousands of fans watching with a beer in hand?
