It is the last day that the corona shot can be obtained and that is noticeable. It was extremely busy at various injection locations on Friday. “Better to have a shot than to be sick in bed,” says Mariëlle. She is one of the many people who wants to quickly get a shot in Breda. According to the GGD, more than a thousand people came there to get a vaccination on the last day.
“I hear and see around me that corona is increasing considerably, so I wanted to quickly get a shot,” says Mariëlle. She walked into the injection location in Breda just before closing time. “Everyone wants a shot on the last day, I think. But it looks like I’m the youngest here,” the 57-year-old says, laughing.
Edwin from Tilburg will also quickly get a shot on Friday. “You hear that many people are sick now, and it is the last day that this is possible. So I think it is worth coming here,” he says.
“Better to wait a while than be sick with corona.”
According to the GGD, around 1,200 people came to get a corona shot in Breda on this last day. “I think it is because our minister has called out several times that today is the last moment, and that infections are increasing,” says Esther Stiefelhagen of the GGD.
Erik had not expected this hustle and bustle. He had deliberately planned his visit for Friday. “There are now a number of days off coming up, so I can recover from the injection. My experience is that I often become a bit feverish after the booster injection.” He doesn’t think it’s a problem that he has to wait a while for the shot on Friday. “Better to wait a while than be sick for a week due to corona.”
“I’m going to be careful.”
“I don’t understand why they are stopping the corona shots, while so many people are now getting corona,” says 80-year-old Mary-Lou. “That’s weird, isn’t it?” She received all the booster shots herself. That’s why she comes to get a shot on this very last day. “I would be doing a really stupid job if I had them all, but then I didn’t get this last one.” Now that a lot of people have been infected with corona again, Mary-Lou is a bit worried about the holidays. “I’m going to be careful. So don’t shake hands and just hug and kiss everyone.”
