BBL table leaders Niners Chemnitz narrowly won against Rasta Vechta in the Basketball Bundesliga – their pursuer Ulm also won.
League leaders Niners Chemnitz has continued its successful streak in the basketball Bundesliga. The Saxons won on Wednesday (December 20th, 2023) against newly promoted SC Rasta Vechta with 81:80 (40:39).
van Beck makes the decision
Wesley van Beck converted the decisive three-point throw six seconds before the end. Next to the US professional (14 points). DeAndre Lansdowne (22) and Kevin Yebo (17) are the most successful people from Chemnitz. For Vechta, Tommy Kuhse (22), whose last attempt missed the Chemnitz basket, and Wes Iwundu (16) scored the most points.
The spectators saw a very exciting game. Neither team was able to gain a double-digit lead. The Saxons equalized a 25:32 deficit (15th) to 36:36 (18th). After leading 73:66 (35th), the guests fell behind 75:78 (39th). Yebo and van Beck then ensured the Bundesliga leaders’ narrow success from beyond the three-point line.
Ulm back on the road to success
Defending champion ratiopharm Ulm has ended its short negative series and remains on the heels of league leaders Chemnitz. The team of successful coach Anton Gavel defeated the relegation-threatened MLP Academics Heidelberg 98:89 (54:49) on Friday and achieved their first win after two recent defeats.
Ulm’s best scorer was center Trevion Williams with 18 points, and his American compatriot LJ Figueroa (13), Georginho de Paula (12), Pacome Dadiet (11) and Thomas Klepeisz (10) also scored double figures. Vincent Kesteloot (22) stood out for the Heidelberg team.
Things were tight in the first two quarters, neither team was able to gain a decisive advantage – it was only with a run in the third period that the favored champions made things clear. Within a few minutes, Ulm gained 21 points and managed the lead confidently from then on.
