The dike hole at Den Oever was officially closed this morning to prevent high water from flowing into the village. The Wadden Sea is expected to rise to three meters above NAP next night, and that is reason enough for the water board to close the ‘denomination’.
Jorrit Voet from the water board told NH Radio how this works: “The dike hole is there to connect the village with the port. It is normally open, but if the Wadden Sea at Den Helder rises 2 meters 60 above NAP and If there is a northwest wind, the denomination must be closed. Otherwise the village will be flooded.”
Next night it is expected that the water will rise up to 3 meters above NAP on the Wadden Sea.
