The International Tennis Federation ITF suspends the tennis federations of Russia and Belarus. It was also decided on Tuesday that no matches will be played in those two countries that fall under the ITF.
“The ITF condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and Belarus’ assistance in doing so,” the federation said in a statement. “The ITF remains in close contact with the Ukrainian Tennis Federation and stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine.”
The ITF is the worldwide umbrella organization of tennis. In addition, there are also the ATP and the WTA, the professional associations for men and women respectively. The boards of those unions have not yet commented on the situation in Ukraine.
The suspension imposed by the ITF means that the tennis teams of Russia and Belarus are not allowed to participate in the country matches for the Davis Cup and the Billie Jean King Cup.
