Coach Marco Rose doesn’t want to know anything about a goalkeeper discussion at RB Leipzig before the upcoming Champions League duel. “That’s not our issue at the moment,” emphasized the 47-year-old, who will again be relying on former regular goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi in the game against Young Boys Bern on Wednesday (6.45 p.m./DAZN).
The Hungarian was in goal for the first time after an injury break of almost a year in the DFB Cup game against second division club SV Wehen Wiesbaden in September. At the moment, however, Janis Blaswich is usually given preference. Before the premier class duel with the Swiss, Gulacsi now seems “highly motivated, very relaxed, happy,” said Rose: “He’s really looking forward to his comeback here in his own stadium.”
Rose is currently not worried about Gulacsi leaving in the winter. The 33-year-old feels “at home in Leipzig, he was injured for a long time, he is super happy that he is playing tomorrow and there are no signs at all that he is thinking about doing something new,” explained Rose.
In the game against Bern, which is meaningless for Leipzig’s table situation, Rose doesn’t just want to give Gulacsi opportunities to play. “We will bring in a lot of fresh personnel,” said the RB coach: “There are a few guys who can show themselves.” Striker Timo Werner, who was recently injured and is currently at a disadvantage in Leipzig’s offensive, is also an option again.
Before the final group game against Bern, RB is already in second place behind Manchester City and has therefore secured a ticket to the round of 16.
