Soldier hits the target from 65 meters (with ball) and Annabelle from Winsum is the fastest in the kart. This is the good news this week

Good news is not news, they say. Well, we think so! Read here the weekly overview of the sweetest, nicest, most hopeful and funniest news from Groningen and Drenthe. With matching songs and links to even more good news.

This soldier shoots sharply with a ball from a great distance

Brian Tefi will never forget it. The Grijpskerk footballer shot from 65 meters at the VEV ’67 goal. Goalkeeper Pim Wellinghof of VEV ’67 was unable to stop the shot. So goal. Why is that good news? Well, because Tefi is a professional soldier. We would rather see a soldier shooting at a target with a ball than a soldier firing at something or someone with a weapon. Therefore.

Vincent attracts thousands to the Drents Museum

From the category: here we are again. Painter Vincent van Gogh should have realized when he was alive that he would become just about the most talked about man in this section… how differently his life would have turned out!! In all seriousness, the exhibition about Van Gogh and relatives in the Drents Museum in Assen has already been visited by more than 60,000 visitors. Museum director Harry Tupan expects to welcome the 80,000th visitor around Christmas. So you see, more than 130 years after his death, Vincent is still very much alive.

Johannes built a replica of the Academy Building during his studies

Go to school, learn something. Some love it, others hate it. Take Herman Brood and Dolf Brouwers. They never wanted to go back to that shitty school. You have people who would prefer to burn down the school. Not the German Johannes Bey, who has now graduated from the University of Groningen. He did European Culture there and in his spare time he happily pursued a hobby. He meticulously recreated the university’s Academy Building using 70,000 Lego bricks. During the graduation ceremony, he briefly exhibited his work of art in the hall of the Academy Building. Funny detail, it took him only half a year less to build his academy building than it took him to complete his entire 5-year study.

Annabelle is the fastest in the Netherlands and Belgium in karting

She is 16, comes from Winsum and is a karting champion in the Netherlands and Belgium. For seniors up to 30 years old. With Annabelle Brian we have another champion. She unceremoniously drives older boys off the track, outside the track she turns out to be a sweet, shy girl. She has been racing since she was nine. Last year she became First Lady in Le Mans during the world championships. Annabelle dreams – how could it be otherwise – of Formula 1. She is a tough and fast girl. And what is fast will be fine. Or: what is good comes quickly. Both apply here.

Officer rescues woman from submerged car

An officer saved the life of a 55-year-old woman between Meppel and Rouveen this week. The woman’s car fell into the water. The car was completely upside down when the officer arrived. He didn’t think twice, jumped into the water and saved the woman from her plight. Once on dry land, it turned out that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The life-saving angel was then forced to withdraw her driver’s license. Hero or tyrant? Hero of course!

Artists pay musical tribute to esteemed technician

A large group of musicians from Groningen paid a fitting tribute to fellow musician and recording engineer Dik Pomp in the VanBeresteijn cultural center on Friday. Pomp is behind the controls of Audio Studio De Fabriek, housed in – you guessed it – a very old and striking factory building in Veendam. Pomp has recorded a lot of music there. With all kinds of artists. The artists are so grateful to him for the craftsmanship he has delivered behind the buttons that the musicians offered him a musical party on Friday. In the cultural center because it is also pure culture that Pomp delivers in his Factory.
