Bayer rules out January departure
“It was always my goal to play in the Premier League at some point,” said national player Jonathan Tah a good five months ago. Despite the release clause, no major English club contacted Bayer 04 Leverkusen last summer to sign the 27-year-old central defender. This season, however, Tah is one of the most in-form defenders in Europe, which is arousing interest – according to the “Kicker“At Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool, among others.

However, the Premier League greats have a particular need in January, which excludes the “Werkself”. The Blues are looking for a player who can be developed as a successor to old master Thiago Silva (39; contract ends), the “Picture“ reported. At United, Liverpool and Spurs, important defensive pillars Lisandro Martínez (25), Micky van de Ven (22) and Joel Matip (32) are currently out for even longer periods of time. In order to prevent personnel shortages in the second half of the season, a new central defender could play a major role in the transfer plans.
For Bayer, a sale in the winter is probably not an option given the possible triple ambitions in the championship, Europa League and DFB Cup, especially since Edmond Tapsoba (24) and Odilon Kossounou (22) are going to the Africa Cup of Nations at the beginning of the year.
According to the magazine, Tah will have another exit clause in effect in the summer, which should be 18 million euros. That is already a sum that is below the market value of the Hamburg native, which is expected to be increased again in the Bundesliga update on December 14th.
