Large-scale trafficking in cocaine via scrap metal company: two men arrested

Two men from Eindhoven were arrested on Tuesday for large-scale trafficking in cocaine. The men are aged 59 and 35, the police announced on Wednesday. The two are said to have imported cocaine from South America and had it delivered to a scrap yard in the Netherlands.

The purchase of cocaine may take place through a form of underground banking, outside the regular banking system. The police are conducting further investigation here.

The East Brabant police department bases its suspicions, among other things, on messages from Encrochat. This is a notorious criminal messaging service that the police managed to gain access to.

Multiple searches
After the arrests, the police searched the houses of the suspects and several garages. Digital data carriers and vehicles, among other things, were seized.

The two men are under restrictions and are only allowed to have contact with their lawyer. That is why the police are not releasing more information in this case. For this reason, the police do not reveal how much cocaine is involved.
