Weyts invests 17 million euros in extra places in the classroom
Ben Weyts is investing a total of 180 million euros in new places in the classroom. This amount is distributed on the basis of the new capacity monitor. This shows where a shortage of space is expected in 2027-2028. Without interventions, there would be about 40,000 places short in secondary education due to the demographic evolution.
17 million euros for Kortrijk and Roeselare
According to the capacity monitor, there will be too little space in the classrooms in Kortrijk and Roeselare in 5 years’ time. This shortage would mainly manifest itself in secondary education.
Weyts is therefore making 17 million euros available to provide extra places in these two West Flemish cities. This concerns 8.5 million euros for 720 places in Kortrijk and 8.3 million euros for 705 places in Roeselare.
“Investing in quality education also means investing in a quality place for every child,” says Weyts.
