Before FC Bayern’s final games in the football year of 2023, veteran Thomas Müller called for people to sharpen their senses.
“We are currently in a very exciting phase of the season. Not because the prizes are currently being distributed. But because the constellation poses more danger than many people believe,” wrote the 2014 world champion in his email newsletter.
Müller added: “The vacation is approaching, some of the suitcases are already packed, but at the same time everyday life continues. For us it’s about the bare points in the championship.”
After the home game against Union Berlin was canceled due to the weather chaos in Munich and can probably only be rescheduled in 2024, the German record champions will face Eintracht Frankfurt, VfB Stuttgart and VfL Wolfsburg before Christmas. Bayer Leverkusen continues to lead the table before the final spurt.
“If we get this thing in the end, no one will remember this time anymore. But from experience I know that we now have to mobilize all our strengths again to finally get to the top of the table,” explained Müller. “I will consciously pay attention to this tension and, if necessary, take countermeasures.”
The 34-year-old, who was no longer a regular at FC Bayern under coach Thomas Tuchel, called for “rock ‘n’ roll again” in the league, the autumn championship is the clear goal.
“Especially an away game” for Thomas Müller and FC Bayern
Müller has a “special away game” ahead of him on the last Champions League matchday at Old Trafford against Manchester United. As a child, England’s record champions played “a special role” for him, said the Munich veteran. “Especially after the dramatic Champions League final in 1999. Every Bayern fan will remember that painfully for the rest of their lives.”
After that game, he “decided to move to Bayern in 2000 to set things straight again,” Müller noted with a wink.
In the meantime, United has been chasing its own high standards “for quite some time.” “It’s hard for a football romantic like me to digest,” added Müller.
