The festive month could not have started worse for Angela de Jong, because half her house was almost destroyed by a burst water pipe. “The basement has to be completely removed.”
In recent days, Angela de Jong has been much later with her column than usual – sometimes it doesn’t arrive until three o’clock in the afternoon – and there appears to be a reason for that. There is a horrible drama in her personal life. A drama that turns everything upside down for the feared opinion diva of the AD. What is going on?
Bought another house
When Wilfred Genee asks her on the radio how things are going, Angela sounds dejected. “Um, do you want the socially desirable or the real answer? It’s a bit hectic and that has nothing to do with my work, but with my home situation. We bought another house, which is very nice…” she begins her story in BNRs The Friday Move.
The host interrupts her: “Of course you get that. So popular, you can do something better.”
Angela: “Those are your words, but we bought a nice different house.”
Pipe burst
Wilfred teases Angela: “You let John run those eight tons at the time, so it comes in in a different way.”
Angela: “No, it remains a simple house, but just before photos were taken for the sale, a water pipe was hit during excavation work in the street, causing our backyard and that of the neighbors to flood. It all spilled into the house too. And photos still had to be taken.”
Sabotage
So some klutz in a digger has hit the water pipe at the exact point where it only affects Angela and one of her neighbors?! There is nothing yet to indicate sabotage, but it is all very strange. Was Khalid & Sophie’s family in that excavator? Or did a certain Wendy van D. slip someone an envelope?
In any case, the mission is a success, because Angela’s palace is completely ruined. “The basement that we just renovated two years ago has to be completely removed. It has to be rebuilt from scratch.”
Energy label C
Fortunately, it is an insurance issue, says Angela. “It’s all going well and it will certainly turn out fine, but it’s a lot of hassle and a lot of arranging and a lot of delays.”
Ultimately, Angela hopes to be able to sell her home well. She does not want to mention the asking price. “It is a super nice house with five bedrooms. Double glazing, yes. Energy label C, a large garden.”
She jokes: “And now also an indoor swimming pool for those who want it.”
