Under strange circumstances, former Bundesliga professional Rigobert Song became coach of Cameroon’s national soccer team.
This decision was made by Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, reported Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, responsible for sports.
The Fecafoot association should now “take all necessary measures” to implement this requirement “quickly and harmoniously”. The 45-year-old song, which used to play for 1. FC Köln, is to succeed Portuguese Toni Conceicao.
Fecafoot confirmed Conceicao’s dismissal, but did not comment on Song’s personnel.
Cameroon finished third at the Africa Cup of Nations under coach Conceicao, and they also face Algeria in the World Cup play-offs on March 25th and 29th. Song is his country’s all-time record player with 137 appearances.
