Silja Kosonen was surprised by the sum of 67,000 euros

Paavo Nurmi Games collected a record amount of money.

Paavo Nurmi Games and the Turku and Kaarina Parish Association have collected a hefty 67,000 euro pot for sports activities of low-income families with children.

The five-year collection reached a record 17,000 euros this year, which enables support for a hundred new families.

Shot putter Silja Kosonen has been involved in supporting the campaign. He was amazed when he heard about the total pot of 67,000 euros.

– Sounds really great. It’s wonderful that so many people have come to support, Kosonen was happy.

The athletics star knows from his own experience that playing sports is not a cheap hobby.

– All equipment and others always pay. There are few hobbies that you can do without equipment.

Kosonen understands very well that for many, financial assistance from strangers is a direct salvation.

– If my parents had not had the opportunity to support my hobbies, then it would have been extremely great if even complete strangers had wanted to help.

On Saturday, Kosonen went to see the Christmas concert that culminated the fundraising campaign in Turku Cathedral.

130 singers from different choirs from the Turku region performed at the concert. A large children’s choir with 60 school children from grades 3-4 melted the hearts of the audience.

Athletes and sports managers gathered in the church to cheer while Antero Mertaranta hosted the event.
