A present or a poem at the last minute: Sinterklaas stress rears its ugly head every year

Not all the gifts have arrived yet? Then time really starts to run out. With Sinterklaas Eve approaching, Sinterklaas stress also increases. Both in the shopping street and above the blank sheet of paper.

“I have received all the gifts, but I still have to write poetry,” laughs a woman from Hoogeveen in front of the Intertoys in her city. “We celebrate on Sunday and Monday, so I still have some time.” She doesn’t want to call it stress. “But it all has to be done. Fortunately, I have a day off today.”

Ralph Mulder, fast poet, regularly sees such ‘procrastination’. That is why he is busier than usual around December 5th. As far as he is concerned, a good poem does not have to rhyme, but it should highlight someone’s positive points. His tip: “First put on paper what you want to say about that person and then write a poem around it.”
