U17 World Cup annually from 2025? “Could completely change the development of football”

FIFA plan

The U17 Junior World Championship is scheduled to take place annually from 2025. This emerges from a statement published by the world association FIFA on Friday. “An annual FIFA U17 World Cup could completely change the trajectory of football. It could make a significant difference to every child around the world as they develop and grow as a player,” said former Paraguay international Julio González, a member of FIFA’s Technical Study Group, who will oversee technical, tactical and physical trends analyzed.

Since its premiere in 1985, the U17 World Cup has been held every two years and was only canceled in 2021 due to the corona pandemic. In the current tournament, the German Football Association (DFB) team is playing against France for the title this Saturday (1 p.m.) in Surakarta – it is the new edition of the European Championship final from the summer. A host for the U17 World Cup in two years has not yet been decided.
