The provincial phase of the disaster plan ends this night. The animals can go home again from next Friday. All together, about 100,000 sandbags have been prepared, containing a total of about 2 million kilos of sand.
“The situation on the site is closely monitored by the water managers. The sandbags on the public domain and the pumps at Sint-Jorissas and Ganzenpoot in Nieuwpoort remain on site.”
The water level in the Yser Basin is now 4.5 meters.
“The water is receding very slowly,” says the governor. “The dikes have failed. There is quite a lot of damage.”
