3 playoff winners still to be decided
Croatia, third in the World Cup, was the last team to secure a direct ticket to the European Championships in Germany. The Croatians beat Armenia 1-0 (1-0) on Tuesday evening and thus completed qualification for the 2024 tournament. Ante Budimir scored the decisive goal for coach Zlatko Dalic’s team in Zagreb in the 43rd minute.
Wales therefore had no chance in the long-distance duel. The 2016 semi-finalists had led 1-0 for a long time against Turkey thanks to a goal from Neco Williams (7th) and had temporarily moved past Croatia in the blitz table. Yusuf Yazıcı ended all the Welsh’s dreams in the 70th minute with the final score 1-1.
21 of 24 tickets awarded: The European Championship participants based on current squad value
The Dutch, who had already qualified in advance, won an easy 6-0 (3-0) win against outsiders Gibraltar in the Algarve. France had also already secured their European Championship ticket and completed their European Championship qualification with a 2-2 (1-0) win in Greece. Ex-Frankfurt player Randal Kolo Muani (42nd) and Youssouf Fofana (74th) scored the goals for the French. Anastasios Bakasetas (56th) and Fotis Ioannidis (61st) scored for Greece. However, the Greeks had no chance of getting a direct ticket to the European Championship before, but they can still try the playoffs. There they will first face Kazakhstan in the semi-finals next March. The final opponent would be Georgia or Luxembourg (to explain the qualification system).
The Dutch people who have already qualified no longer have to take this detour. Calvin Stengs (10th/50th/62nd), Mats Wieffer (23rd), Teun Koopmeiners (38th) and Cody Gakpo (81st) scored three times in the clear win in Faro against Gibraltar.
