2023 has been a year in which THE NEWSPAPER OF CATALUNYA and the group Iberian Press, of which they are a part, have been able to look back at the respective commemorations of their birth 45 years ago, with the satisfaction of the work accomplished. But they have opted to take advantage of the anniversary above all to look to the future, with an eye toward explaining what we are, what we want to be and how we want to be. We, as a medium, in a continuous process of reinvention, and the society that we explain and to which we owe ourselves (from readers to advertisers). This year, with the delivery of Català de l’Any award, The Editorial Committee of the newspaper wanted to highlight Antonio Díaz, the Pop Magician. A young magician who at 37 years old deserves applause for his already long career (he debuted on stage at the age of 17 and received the National Magic Award at 22), his present successes and his future projects.
In the year that we are about to close, this Catalan Badia del Vallès has made the great leap to international notoriety, taking a show produced in Barcelona to the top, a Broadway theater, with indisputable success among critics and the public. In the last theater season, one in five theatergoers in Catalonia chose to buy a ticket to see her illusion show. Established television star and the highest grosser in the world on stage already in 2108, has decided to combine his talent with initiatives as a theater entrepreneur, with the acquisition of a theater in Barcelona, the historic Victoria, and another in the United States, the Branson Theater (Missouri).
In its 21 editions, the Català de l’Any award has distinguished, among others, artists such as Josep Maria Pou, Joan Manuel Serrat or Jaume Plensa, politicians like Pasqual Maragall or Manuela de Madre, entrepreneurs like John Hoffman, activists for worthy causes like Òscar Camps or Neus Català, athletes like Pau Gasol or Pep Guardiola and scientists like Joan Massagué or Josefina Castellví.
All of them have combined achievements in their respective fields with a connection and recognition with their land, which makes them representatives of the multiple facets of Catalan culture. His international successes have been praised not only as an expression of his personal talent, but have been celebrated and shared by many. It is the same joy that we felt when Antonio Díaz, returning to Barcelona again with his show, took the stage this time to share with us the Català de l’Any gala.
This newspaper also shares the values that distinguished people like Català de l’Any have represented throughout these years and is inspired by their example. All of them have shown their contribution to some of theThe three editorial commitments of this newspaper, Progreso, attentive to the needs of people and of Planet, and the persistent will to continue doing so in the future. As we will continue to do.
