After a negative series of six games without a win and falling to the bottom of the table, second division football team VfL Osnabrück separated from promotion coach Tobias Schweinsteiger on Tuesday, according to NDR information.
The 41-year-old was given a leave of absence three days after the bitter 2-3 defeat in the basement duel at Eintracht Braunschweig. For the third time in the last six games, the Osnabrück team conceded a decisive goal deep in stoppage time at BTSV. There are six points and six points for both the relegation zone and the saving 15th place. Repeated negligence in the final seconds of a game cost VfL five points.
Schweinsteiger took over the team in August 2022; it was his first coaching position. In his first season he and the team achieved promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. There, the purple-whites are in extreme danger of relegation.
