Roman Cechmanek is dead

The Czech puck legend has died.

The Czech Republic, which is playing in the Karelia tournament, announced just before the Finland match that the country’s legendary puck goalkeeper Roman Cechmanek has died at the age of 52.

Cechmanek won Olympic gold and three world championships in the Czech jersey.

Cechmanek is familiar to Finnish hockey fans, for example, from the World Cup at the beginning of the millennium. He worked at the 1998 Nagano Olympics Dominik Hasek too the couple as the Czech Republic celebrates its victory. In the World Championships, he won the world championship in 1996, 1998 and 2000.

In the NHL, he played 212 games for the Philadelphia Flyers and Los Angeles Kings.

The information about the hockey legend’s death was confirmed by his son, says CTK.

CEO of Kiekkoseura Uherske Hradisten Miroslav Stavjana said that Cechmanek was supposed to go to the match with his sons yesterday, but he had been sick. Stavjana added that Cechmanek did not suffer from any illness.
