VfL Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen drew 2-2 (1-1) on matchday 10 of the Bundesliga. However, none of the team really takes the point further. Both teams are in the middle of the table.
Marvin Ducksch (7th) and Rapahel Borré (65th) scored the goals for SV Werder. Vaclav Černý (37th) and Kevin Paredes (59th) were successful for Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg’s Maxence Lacroix saw the traffic lights in the 88th minute.
For VfL (13 points) it was the first point win after three defeats in a row. Werder (ten points) got their first away point and are now undefeated for two games.
Bremen’s Ducksch hits a fantastic free kick
Werder got off to the best start to the game. After Maxence Lacroix fouled Borré near the penalty area, Ducksch took the ball for a free kick. And the 29-year-old hit the right angle beautifully from around 22 meters. The ball slammed into the goal from the inside post (7th).
With the early lead behind them, Werder now gave Wolfsburg more of the ball. But VfL had little idea what to do with it. It was only after a standard that things became dangerous. Lacroix headed a free kick just wide of the goal (25′).
Wolfsburg’s keeper Pervan prevents the 2-0
Werder repeatedly tried to prick the score and had a great chance to make it 2-0 after 31 minutes. But first VfL keeper Pavao Pervan made a strong save against a direct shot from Romano Schmid, then Raphael Borré failed to put the follow-up shot on goal.
That should take revenge. Six minutes later, Wolfsburg somewhat surprisingly equalized. Joakim Mæhle broke through on the right and put the ball in the middle. Černý was right and scored from six meters to make it 1-1 – which was also the half-time score.
Paredes just has to push in
The second half started off evenly, with slight advantages for Werder. But Wolfsburg scored the goal again. Mæhle again brought the ball from the right side to the six-yard box. This time Lovro Majer cleverly directed his heel to the completely free Paredes, who only had to push in from three meters (59th).
But Wolfsburg’s celebration didn’t last long, as Werder were there again just six minutes later. Romando Schmid dribbled through the center and passed the ball to Mitchell Weiser. Borré found his cross in the penalty area and the striker headed it in for Bremen’s quick response (65′).
Wolfsburg and Werder shy away from risk
Both teams continued to play forward, but without much risk. So little happened in front of the gates. In the 81st minute, Ducksch was suddenly free. Instead of finishing himself, he wanted to cross, but played the pass far too sloppily. Lucky for Ducksch: He was probably offside.
Two minutes before the end, Lacroix received a yellow-red card after repeated foul play. However, Werder was no longer able to take advantage of this. In the end it was a fair draw.
Wolfsburg in Gladbach, Bremen against Frankfurt
The Wolves will meet Mönchengladbach at the start of the 11th matchday (Friday, November 10th, 2023 at 8:30 p.m.). Werder welcomes Eintracht Frankfurt two days later (5:30 p.m.).
