DFB Cup: Which teams are or were there – regulations for 2023/24
In addition to the 36 professional clubs from the federal leagues, the four top teams from last season in the 3rd league also qualified for the 2023/24 DFB Cup. Since SC Freiburg II is not eligible to take part, Saarbrücken moved up to fifth place in the third division. There were also the 21 state cup winners and a team each from Bavaria, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia. These are the regional associations of the German Football Association with the largest number of members. Since the local cup finalists Elversberg and Saarbrücken in Saarland had already qualified in the 3rd league, FC Homburg moved up, winning a playoff and surprisingly throwing out SpVgg Greuther Fürth in round two.
