Alkmaar police on edge at station and center after previous hooligan attack

The mayor of Alkmaar has designated the center, the Spoorbuurt and the station as a safety risk area because of a possible threat to hooligans from the Rotterdam region. This means that the police may carry out preventive searches. This instruction applies from 6 p.m. tonight, until 4 a.m. tomorrow.

The municipality emphasizes that the city districts are designated as a safety risk area ‘as a precaution’. “The cause is concern about disturbances of the peace, partly due to the incident of 19 February at the Scharlo.” The municipality is referring to the attack of 40 hooligans a week ago at cafe De Overkant.

The attack was probably done by supporters who belong to the hard core of Feyenoord. Tomorrow AZ will play against Feyenoord in Alkmaar. Police information would show that ‘on Saturday evening, February 26, 2022, a group of at least 40 hard core Feyenoord supporters will come to (the center of) Alkmaar’.

Preventive frisking

There is a risk that football supporters will use heavy fireworks, which poses a ‘great danger’ to public order and safety. “The municipality attaches great importance to ensuring that a busy catering evening in the city center can run smoothly and thus wants to limit the risk of disturbances.”

People who are around the station or in the center of Alkmaar during the night from Saturday to Sunday should therefore take into account that they can be searched by the police.
