Indie rock: Bar Italia present their next rousing work six months after their debut.
The salvation of good old indie rock comes from London, but it has a more Mediterranean-sounding name: Bar Italia. The band, named after the café in Soho, surprised everyone in the spring with the album TRACEY DENIM, which many lovers of the indie-schrammel sound could agree on. Now we know: Bar Italia are here to stay, just over six months later, Nina Cristante, Jezmi Tarik Fehmi and Sam Fenton are presenting a work that is at least as great with their fourth album.
13 pieces with post-punk, pop and rippling guitar elements can be heard; Pavement, Sonic Youth or Girls Against Boys are pop coordinates that could be cited as a reference. The male-female alternating vocals work excellently here, the tracks mostly meander in mid-tempo, and a few beautiful verses emerge from the songs every now and then. The band also has a sense of humor, the song “Real House Vibes” is given the additional title “Desperate House Vibes”. This much is clear: the vibes are right, there is no reason to despair.
