According to Turkish sites, Istanbul magistrates have closed the Ituma case. On the night between 12 and 13 April 2023, Julia Ituma fell from the window of a hotel room in Istanbul. The Istanbul prosecutor’s office has stopped investigating the tragic death of an 18-year-old volleyball player. Based on the evidence found, it was determined that Ituma had a mental crisis and committed suicide.
The tragic event occurred the night after the match between Eczacibasi Istanbul and Igor Gorgonzola Novara, Champions League semi-final. Julia Ituma reported to her club friends and coach that she felt unwell. She also wrote “goodbye” in the team’s WhatsApp chat. She subsequently fell from a window on the sixth floor of a hotel in Istanbul.
The Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office determined that Julia Ituma suffered from a mental crisis and committed suicide. The tragedy occurred around 5.30am.
An attempt was made to investigate the last moments of the volleyball player’s life. Footage from a hotel camera emerged showing Ituma walking alone in the corridor. First she spoke on the phone and then she sat on the floor with her head lowered.
His roommate, Lucia Varela Gomez, Igor Gorgonzola Novara teammate, confessed to having spoken to Ituma around 1:30 am. She subsequently fell asleep and was woken up by the police who informed her of the tragic accident.
Records showing the outside of the hotel show that the woman fell out of the window, hit the gutter and fell to the ground. The autopsy report stated that death was due to bodily injuries, brain hemorrhage, pelvic fractures and internal hemorrhages due to damage to internal organs.
The prosecutor’s office decided to close the investigation into this case. As noted, there is no evidence that anyone else harmed Ituma, ordered her to commit suicide, or influenced the young volleyball player’s decision.
