It is nothing unusual that WhatsApp rolls out smaller updates at regular intervals. However, the past changes were all of a larger caliber – including the currently planned design changes to the messenger.

WhatsApp is currently making a number of major changes. It was only introduced in August that images and videos could finally be sent in high HD resolution. This feature had been requested by messenger users for a long time. A new design is also being worked hard behind the scenes. Some Android users have already been able to take a look at the new WhatsApp design. Now it’s iPhone owners’ turn. But what exactly is changing?

WhatsApp adapts its design via updates

New colors, new icons, new arrangement of elements – WhatsApp plans to completely change the design of its app. In the past few months, Android users in particular have been able to get an impression of the new look in the beta versions. They reported that the menu bar had moved from the top to the bottom of the display. Some of the buttons are no longer round, but square with rounded edges.

The website specializing in messenger WABetaInfo also looked at beta version 2.23.18.18 for Android and filtered out the first images of the new design. Accordingly, the color of the header area of the app should change. So far the field is in the typical WhatsApp green. In the future, however, the area will have a white background with green elements – at least in the standard version. If you use dark mode, you probably won’t have to expect any changes, at least in terms of color. The font in the menu bar also changes slightly with the new design.

New symbols, buttons and filter options

However, the symbols will probably also be partially adapted for both variants. While the prominent symbols of the camera for photos and the magnifying glass for the search function remain, the profile photo is right next to them. You can use this to access your own account information and possibly make adjustments. The reason for this is probably that WhatsApp is soon introducing the long-awaited function that allows you to use the messenger with multiple profiles.

In addition, like in an email inbox, several filter options should be available directly above the chat list. You can then view all unread, personal or business messages with a single tap. This function was already available in several versions in earlier beta versions.

New WhatsApp design now officially available for the iPhone

It was not yet known exactly when the changes would be implemented across the board. However reported WABetaInfo from the first iPhone users who were already able to officially download the update with the new WhatsApp design. According to the blog, it is officially available in the App Store with the 23.21.72 update for iOS. However, Apple did not mention the design adjustments in the changelog.

“We can confirm that a limited number of users will finally be able to experiment with the new interface, which was previously only available to some beta testers. It’s important to note that the new UI includes a new green color as the app’s main tint color. In addition, newly designed icons are available in the app settings and in the chat info screen,” say the experts at WABetaInfo.

WhatsApp for iOS is getting a new look

With such large updates, WhatsApp usually takes a little more time to roll out. iPhone users could therefore gradually receive the new design in the coming weeks. And Android users shouldn’t have to wait too long either. Since the function is already in beta, at least participants in the Android test version can already get an idea of the adjustments.

Since the WhatsApp menu bar on iOS has been located at the bottom of the display for a long time, the described color and symbol changes should be particularly interesting for the iOS version. One thing is certain: the updates for iOS and Android bring the two versions of the app closer together visually and functionally – with the biggest changes affecting Android users.
