“Salem’s Lot” probably shouldn’t be shown in the cinema

After a remake of the horror classic “Salem’s Lot” (German title: Brennen muss Salem) was announced in 2019, there was little news about the film. Now there is disappointing news for all fans: The Stephen King film will probably not be shown in the cinema and will instead only be shown in your own home.

Home cinema instead of a film palace

In 2023, two horror films “The Boogeyman” and “Cemetery of the Cuddly Toys: Bloodlines” based on King’s novels were released. In addition, the remake of “Salem’s Lot”, which was announced four years ago, is still pending. In the meantime, a date had already been set for the cinema release, but that didn’t happen and, according to information from “Variety“Nothing will come of it anymore.

Instead of being shown on the big screen, Stephen King’s vampire story will probably only be exploited for the home cinema market. It will probably be shown on Warner Bros.’s “Max” streaming platform, but this is not yet available in Germany.

This is said to be due to the current actors’ strike, which ensured that “Max” developed a growing need for streaming products. An unnamed source told Variety: “The film’s future distribution plans have not yet been decided.”

“Salem’s Lot” is about a small place called Jerusalem’s Lot that is haunted by a vampire. An author who visits the town becomes aware of this and tries to fight the intruder together with the residents.

The upcoming remake is the third film depiction of King’s novel from 1975. Four years after the book was published, Tobe Hooper created the first film adaptation, and the next adaptation followed in 2004 in the form of a series.
