Customers have been urged to check their flight status before traveling to the airport. Further disturbances are to be expected during the day, it said in a statement. Long-haul flights and all scheduled flights to Gatwick and London City airports are taking place, albeit with delays.
Affected passengers would be contacted and given the option of a refund of the flight price or a free rebooking, BA said. “We know we have let our customers down and we will do whatever we can to make it right – but for now our focus is on getting as many customers and flights on the road as possible bring.”
The difficulties had started on Friday evening. BA initially denied rumors of a complete standstill of flight operations, but the problems seem to be bigger than initially assumed. According to media reports, the airline’s website and app were also said to have been unavailable at times. It is the second time in ten days that BA has faced major technical difficulties. There was speculation on social media about a possible Russian cyber attack. However, the company ruled that out as a cause.
