Irene Schouten won the 5000 meters during the qualifying tournament for the World Cup in Heerenveen. The 31-year-old skater from Hoogkarspel was by far the fastest with 6.42.24. In her first official race of the season at this distance, she finished one second above her own personal record and track record in Thialf. Marijke Groenewoud finished second in 6.50.77 and Sanne in ‘t Hof came third in 6.52.11.
