Mr Martin Kuijer is appointed as a member and Ms Janneke Gerards as an alternate member of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe. The Council of Ministers agreed to this on the proposal of Minister Yeşilgöz-Zegerius of Justice and Security.

Martin Kuijer is a Judge at the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. He was previously a legal advisor at the Ministry of Justice and Security. He was also professor of human rights at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Janneke Gerards is professor of fundamental rights at Utrecht University. She is also a deputy judge at the Court of Appeal in The Hague.

The Venice Commission is an advisory body to the Council of Europe and focuses, among other things, on promoting constitutional law and the democratic order in Europe. For example, the Venice Commission offers constitutional advice and conducts (comparative) research into democracy and constitutional law-related topics.
