Ex-professionals Thomas Strunz and Dietmar Hamann can understand FC Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeneß’s criticism of coach Thomas Tuchel.
The long-time manager and president of the German record champions heard Tuchel’s statements about transfer policy in an interview RTL/ntv and sport.de as “unwise” “because I don’t make my own team look bad by saying we’re stretched too thin.”
“It’s a topic that needs to be discussed internally and not after every game in front of television cameras. This leads to you as a player dealing with things that are simply unnecessary,” said Strunz in the football talk “Sky90”.
Tuchel “said nothing other than that everyone else in the club who is responsible for transfers hadn’t done their job,” added the former FC Bayern player. “This is criticism of the leadership, squad planning, implementation and who is responsible for it.”
“Despite all the problems that are always there, Thomas Tuchel’s job is to ensure a good atmosphere in the dressing room, because top performances have to be delivered every three days,” Strunz continued. “But if I keep repeating the topic, then as a player I might only have 95 percent confidence in what the coach says.”
FC Bayern: Criticism of Thomas Tuchel’s “whining”.
Hamann also criticized Tuchel. He “couldn’t simply shirk responsibility because he was part of the transfer committee. And he couldn’t decide who he wanted.”
The 50-year-old also criticized Tuchel’s handling of the current personnel concerns. FC Bayern will “get through the games until the winter break. I really can’t listen to this constant whining anymore.”
The latest addition to the FC Bayern hospital is Leon Goretzka. The national player will probably be out for several weeks due to a fractured hand.
