An explosion occurred this evening at a porch door that leads to the stairwell of several homes in Molukkenstraat in Amsterdam East. The door, glass and ceiling panels, among other things, were broken.
The explosion happened around 7:45 p.m. “An explosion on the other side, I’m starting to get scared now,” a resident of the street told AT5. Someone who lives further away: “I think something just exploded in East. Near Javaplein, in Langkatstraat and it was really loud.”
Smoke
Images taken by a local resident immediately after the explosion show a lot of smoke. The mailbox ended up across the street due to the explosion.
A police spokesperson says no one was injured. There have been no arrests so far. The street is closed off, bus 40 and bus 65 detour.
Research
The police have started an investigation and are hoping for tips. “Especially at this time, when it is still very active. So that offers an opportunity for people who have seen something,” says the spokesperson.
