Attack in Brussels: Perpetrator convicted in Sweden for serious drug offences, IS claims terrorist act | Abroad

Together with two others, Abdesalem Lassoued was arrested in Malmö in September 2012 on suspicion of drug dealing. Later that year, he was sentenced to two years and two months in prison for possession of 100 grams of cocaine and had to leave the country. 38,000 Swedish krona, equivalent to more than 3,300 euros, were also seized.

The TV program also claims to have spoken to someone who knew Lassoued when he stayed in Sweden. He described the man as deeply religious, but certainly not radicalized.

Islamic State says in a message on Telegram that it is responsible for the attack on Monday in the center of Brussels, reports Reuters news agency. The suspected attacker himself, who was shot dead by the police, said on social media that he was a member of the terrorist organization.
