Public transport prices will not increase next year after all

The significant price increase in public transport, which seemed likely for next year, will not take place. A ticket would become almost 12 percent more expensive, but due to the government’s intervention, this increase does not have to occur.

In September, the Transport Region released the news that a ticket would not be available without financial support from the cabinet 11.72 percent would become more expensive. Due to the increases in energy and personnel and the still lower passenger numbers, the Transport Region was unable to keep prices at the current level. The transport region called on national politicians to make more money available for public transport.

The House of Representatives adopted a motion from the Christian Union to combat fare increases in public transport a few days ago. With the arrival of financial support, the price increase has been stopped. “It was a close call, but we are happy that The Hague listened and acted decisively,” said Melanie van der Horst, who is the chairman of the Executive Board of the Transport Region.
