Iskelmä singer Virve “Vicky” Rosti, who has been performing for almost 50 years, recalls the early stages of her career in this week’s Vain läää episode. Rosti won the Finnish pop singing championship in 1974 and just a couple of weeks after his victory, the singer received a phone call that changed his life.
– Danny called and asked if I had summer jobs, Rosti begins.
– He offered a summer job at the Danny Show, which started almost immediately. I immediately joined the training. In the summer of 1974 I toured with Danny, as well as -75 and -76. It was a good school, that is, a pop school.
For the 15-year-old, summer work on the tour of Finland’s most current male artist also brought financial relief.
– I am happy that I was able to pay the rent to my parents in a way. One Mother’s Day, Mom wanted a new kitchen knife as a Mother’s Day gift. I handed him the keys and he wondered what they were. He asked if they needed to be stored somewhere. I told mom to come out and have a look. There was a bubble wrap. I didn’t even buy a kitchen knife, I bought a car.

The legendary graduation photo
In the interview video shown during the episode, a picture of Rost’s graduation party is shown. Danny and Armi Aavikko are posing with the singer in the picture.
Only life colleague Anna Puu immediately draws attention to the image.
– That student account of yours is quite legendary. With Armi and Danny in it. Not many of us have that, he updates.
Rosti reveals that his parents set a certain condition for performing with Danny.
– Danny did a show every summer, and it was a big deal to get involved. Then my father and mother made it a condition for this to continue, that I study for high school. I promised it and I did it.
