US national coach Gregg Berhalter warned of the German offensive with Niclas Füllkrug and Florian Wirtz before the friendly against Germany this Saturday (9 p.m./RTL) in East Hartford.
“We have a plan on how we want to defend this,” said the former Bundesliga professional. In particular, Füllkrug, who moved from Werder Bremen to Borussia Dortmund before the current football season, has “an interesting profile,” said the 50-year-old. “This will be a good test for our central defense,” said Berhalter and added: “If he plays.”
He recalled that Germany “always had good strikers”. The 30-year-old Füllkrug only made his international debut against Oman last November and scored the goal in the 1-0 win. The striker then also scored at the World Cup in Qatar, Berhalter recalled. Füllkrug’s move to Dortmund was “a rise,” said the US coach. “And he keeps scoring,” he added.
