Celebrations of the 118th anniversary of the establishment of Galatasaray Sports Club were held today.
Within the scope of the 118th anniversary organizations, the grave of Ali Sami Yen, the founder of the club and the number 1 member of the club, was visited in Feriköy Cemetery. After the visit to Ali Sami Yen’s cemetery, a wreath was laid at the Taksim Republic Monument. Afterwards, Galatasaray President Dursun Özbek, Galatasaray Council Board President Aykutalp Derkan, Galatasaray Education Foundation President İnan Kıraç, board of directors and club members and athletes from various branches took part in the events at Tevfik Fikret Hall.

Making a statement after visiting Ali Sami Yen’s grave, Galatasaray President Dursun Aydın Özbek said: “Ali Sami Yen founded this distinguished club 118 years ago at Galatasaray High School. He and his friends set out a mission for Galatasaray Sports Club with the establishment of the club. He stated that this mission is a club established to beat foreign teams. From then on, the managers have always remained loyal to this mission to glorify Galatasaray. Of course, today, Galatasaray is the most successful team in Turkey and abroad in the competitions with foreign teams. The management is under my chairmanship. We embrace this mission with my friends on the board. We do everything we can to beat foreign teams. The victory we experienced last week is a sign of this. I would like to thank my entire community, especially my fans, my general assembly members, my friends who are members of the board of directors. We achieve these victories with the support they give us. Hopefully, from now on, Galatasaray will raise its flag to the highest level. Those who come after us will follow the same mission.
