The TSG Hoffenheim footballers showed great morale, but missed the jump back to the top of the Bundesliga table.
Coach Stephan Lerch’s team saved at least one point in the 2-2 (0-1) draw against Bayer Leverkusen thanks to a strong final phase after a two-goal deficit.
Mara Alber (74th) and Ereleta Memeti (78th) equalized the Bayer lead of Karolina Vilhjalmsdottir (34th) and Kristin Kögel (62nd). Shortly before the goal, the Rhinelanders had missed a great chance to make it 3-0, but new signing Nikola Karczewska failed in front of 762 spectators with a penalty kick to TSG goalkeeper Martina Tufekovic (70th).
TSG remains unbeaten after the third matchday and is in second place with seven points. Leverkusen is in sixth place (four points).
