Arjen Lubach has had a successful first week of his new late talk show, but not everyone is a fan. Johan Derksen is not impressed at all. “He’s just not nice.”
The Evening Show with Arjen Lubach started on Monday with an impressive 1.6 million viewers, on Tuesday there were 1.3 million viewers, on Wednesday – compared to football – 944 thousand and yesterday the first broadcasting week ended with 1 million viewers (22 percent). With this, the TV maker has had a successful week on NPO 1.
Johan critical
Johan Derksen is in any case not a fan, he tells in VI Today. “I watched Van der Valk on Wednesday evening, because it will be repeated. I watched it all the way, very carefully, because I didn’t like it the night before. I didn’t like it again, but it’s quite painful for the happy few in the Netherlands if you don’t like something from the VPRO or Lubach.”
Yet Johan has that opinion. “I did not like it. He doesn’t like to interview, the underpieces weren’t fun, that laugh track is already coming out of my throat. Am I not allowed to like something? Once a week it was fine, I thought, on Sunday evening, but what he is doing now…”
Little American
Presenter Wilfred Genee: “He was also more involved in journalism then. He always had items that were completely finished, picking out something that was going on at the time. That is of course impossible with such a daily show. Then you have to approach it all differently. It’s all a bit American.”
Lawyer Job Knoester, who sat at the table as a guest: “That laugh track means that when I start watching, I immediately stop. Because of that laugh track.”
Food poisoning
Incidentally, Arjen revealed yesterday that he presented the Tuesday broadcast with a lot of stomach pain. “Shall I tell you? Yes, I also had a very severe food poisoning on Tuesday, so I also presented my entire program, the second broadcast, while I was actually in a kind of haze, in a kind of dream.”
He continues: “It was very special. The next day I looked back on NPO Start to see if I had really presented a broadcast, which was very special. I thought: let’s see if I made funny jokes. But it was quite fun.”
Ukraine news at #1
What were the most people watching yesterday? The news about the war in Ukraine in an extra long Eight Hour News was viewed by 2.3 million people (39% market share). This was Het Nieuws only started at 9.10 pm, which was watched by 1.3 million people (25%).
The other most viewed prime-time titles were Expedition Robinson with 853 thousand viewers (15%) on RTL 4, VI Today with 722 thousand viewers (15%) on SBS 6, Nieuwsuur with 658 thousand viewers (14%) on NPO 2 and Marble Mania with 600 thousand viewers (11 percent) on SBS 6.

Programs that did not reach the top fifteen ratings include Jinek (591 thousand), Shownieuws (453 thousand), HLF8 (284 thousand), Big Brother (294 thousand) and Deal or no Deal (184 thousand).
