Almost a quarter of the way through the competition, there are not only significant differences in the Premier League standings – the difference between the top 4 and the surprising number 5 is already (at least) seven points – the top scorers Santiago Giménez and Vangelis Pavlidis also have a significant gap beaten and the same names appear more and more often in the Team of the Week.
Jerdy Schouten has been included in the Team of the Week for the third time today. With an 8 against Sparta, the PSV midfielder is the best player of the past weekend.
To accentuate the leader’s excellent start, he shares the spot in our Team of the Week after the eighth round with no fewer than three teammates. Malik Tillman, who was also selected last week, Sergiño Dest and Olivier Boscagli also complete the PSV delegation.
On behalf of number 2 AZ, Jordy Clasie, who was also included in the Team of the Week last week, and Riechedly Bazoer have a spot. Excelsior ‘supplies’ goalkeeper Stijn van Gassel and FC Twente is represented by Youri Regeer.
During rush hour it’s time to change pennies again. This week Giménez solves his Greek fellow colleague Pavlidis off after his two goals in Zwolle. The Mexican is flanked by Rajiv van La Parra (Almere City) and Osame Sahraoui (SC Heerenveen).
