Serie A: Christian Pulisic shoots AC Milan past local rivals Inter

As of: October 7th, 2023 10:50 p.m

Despite a 2-0 lead, Inter Milan missed a win against FC Bologna and lost their lead in Serie A. AC Milan took first place on Saturday (October 7th, 2023) thanks to a late goal from Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud as goalkeeper.

In the 87th minute, the former Dortmund player scored his team to a 1-0 (0-0) win at FC Genoa. After a cross, Pulisic received the ball, turned and scored with his left foot from ten meters. When the ball was accepted, the ball jumped to the American’s hand, but the referee decided, based on video evidence, that the goal was correct. Totally crazy: In stoppage time, Milan keeper Mike Maignan – Olivier Giroud briefly went into the goal for him and made a strong save in the end – saw the red card, shortly afterwards his counterpart Josep Martinez had to leave the field with a yellow-red card.

Milan took advantage of Inter’s slip-up, which drew 2-2 (2-1) against Bologna. It looked like a clear affair for the “Nerrazurri” after early goals from Francesco Acerbi (11th) and Argentine world champion Lautaro Martinez (13th). But the guests hit back with Riccardo Orsolini (19th/foul penalty) and former Bayern striker Joshua Zirkzee (52nd).

Juve stays on top

And another Inter pursuer was also able to take advantage of the slip-up: Juventus Turin confidently won the city derby against AC Turin 2-0 (0-0) in the late afternoon. Federico Gatti (47th) and Arkadiusz Milik (62nd) ensured the record champions’ fifth win of the season, which is in third place, two points behind Inter.
