After 4 intense days, the International fair of tourism of Buenos Aires concluded its 27th edition setting a new record of attendees: 127,492 visitors (87,986 general public and 39,506 professionals).
The balance was obviously positive, at a time of high tourist consumption, which is evident in Argentina both with local public getaways to different destinations in the country, even promoting new placesbut also with a very high reception of foreign tourism.
And on the eve of the summer holidays, many visitors toured the stands looking for options inside and outside the country. And the Caribbean was once again one of the stars, with multiple destinations and air and accommodation options at affordable prices.
Mexico, Colombia (which has grown strongly in local preference), Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic appear in that range of preferences for the local public. And to them is added the stellar presence of Arubathe premium place in the Caribbean that has captured the attention of Argentines in recent seasons and wants to go for more.
“In 2023 we are doing very well. I agree that this year is quite busy, and I really like to see this. But for Aruba, the Argentines who are visiting it are incredibly increasing, we are 22% above 2019, which was one of the best years,” he explained Jordan Schlipken CroesAruba Tourism Authority Area Director for the Latin American Region.
“The Argentine market is the second most important for us in the Latin American market. Colombia is number one, followed by Argentina,” said Croes, who has previously led Latin American and Caribbean projects in a multinational company focused on loyalty marketing.
“We measure trends and data a lot. It is worth mentioning that Aruba lives off tourism, 80% of Aruba’s gross domestic product is tourism, so we monitored everything. And the trend is that people have already visited Punta Cana and Cancun. Then they look for a destination in the Premium but affordable Caribbean. Aruba is that destination,” presented Croes, who gave the profile of the Argentine who visits the island.
“The Argentine stays at least 9 nights in Aruba, which is a fairly large number. On the other hand, 65% of Argentines visit it for the first time. The 40% of them consume all-inclusive hotels. But Aruba is not an all-inclusive destination, it is one where you go, sleep and have breakfast at the hotel, and that’s it. It has more than 200 restaurants across the street, it is a destination to experience the place as such and not stay in the hotel,” he said.
A place willing to compete strongly with already established destinations, leveraging the offer with air promotions: there are several airlines that arrive in Aruba, Avianca, Copa, and LATAM Airlines starts in December. Copa Airlines has flights from $550. But the Caribbean menu is extensive.
