Tessa (Josephine Langford) and Hardin (Hero Fiennes-Tiffin) now live separate lives after the boy published – without Tessa’s knowledge – the book (After) about their story. Meanwhile, in the United States, friends Landon (Chance Perdomo) and Nora (Kiana Madeira) prepare for their upcoming wedding, which will also feature Tessa and Hardin. Which it is ready to do anything to win back his beloved.

After 5 It’s a sugary and predictable film

Born as a fanfiction dedicated to Harry Styles of One Direction, the literary saga created by Anna Todd immediately had a resounding success. Also thanks to the films based on the novels, all published around 2015. The reasons for the success? Not only the high dose of romance but also, in the case of film adaptations, the good chemistry between the lead actors, a “sugary” photography and a good dose of intense sex scenes but never vulgar.

It’s no exception either After 5initially not planned by the producers and always directed by Castille Landon, who shifts its attention almost entirely to the male protagonist Hardin. Bad boy looking redemption from a past (and present) of dissolute selfishness. As the lead actor Hero Fiennes-Tiffin himself declared «He has so much past trauma and confusion in his head that he can’t show the best version of himself to others if he does not heal himself first.”

After an excellent start in the dark grayness of London, the film moves to Lisbon and unfortunately interest drops dramatically. In fact, if in the first part Hardin’s alcoholic hallucinations – including an in-flight sexual act with a stewardess – seem to have the upper hand over the clichés of the plot, in the Portuguese capital (filmed as if it were a luxury tourist office commercial) the transformation of the protagonist is obvious and not very credible. Even if, we are sure, will not disappoint avid fans of the saga. The film therefore flows (for better or worse) until the final part where it takes place the very predictable ending which, once again, will delight the most loyal fans.
