Drenthe-Greek plogger active at the World Cup in Italy: ‘A bizarre event’

Daniel Angelis walked around Genoa like a man possessed last weekend. He was not there for vacation, work or related purposes, but he was there for the Plogging World Cup. What?

You may have never heard of it: plogging. It is a contraction of the Swedish plocka, which means to pick up, and to jog. Angelis, living in Meppel, was our Drenthe-Greek trump card in Italian Liguria.

With his relatives in Greece, Angelis represented this country during the world championship. But there was little chance that Angelis would simply have stayed in Meppel. “I found this out through the plogger who represented the Netherlands. He had something about it posted.

Angelis quickly qualified for the World Cup, for which he arrived in Italy together with a total of one hundred participants, spread among seventeen nationalities. The ploggers slogged their way through with the aim of collecting as much waste as possible. “You can do that with a grab, but I do it with a glove. Run, grab the thing and continue.”
