The gas tap in Groningen, in the north of the Netherlands, has been completely turned off since 6 am this morning. This was reported by a photographer from the ANP news agency who was on site. This means that gas extraction in the northern province of the country will stop after sixty years. Belgium once ran entirely on gas from the Netherlands.
